2025 Program Guidelines

Zynik Founder Scholarship

Nurturing one child, one family, one future at a time.

 

Our Mission: The Zynik Founder Scholarship aims to help alleviate the financial burden of post-secondary education for the children and grandchildren of Zynik Associates who have demonstrated intelligence or gifted talent and outstanding capacity for growth

Size and Number of Awards

  • Total funding awarded in 2025 will be $500,000 (“Scholarship Fund”)
  • The number of scholarships awarded per year will be determined by the amount available in the Scholarship Fund. If there are no eligible candidates, no scholarship will be disbursed for the year.
  • Scholarship amount per recipient: up to 80% of the tuition or up to $50,000
    • Net tuition is tuition, plus mandatory ancillary fees, less merit-based scholarships and health and dental plans.
    • Only tuition incurred after the award date will be eligible.
    • Award disbursed in installments during the course of the program on a reimbursement basis.

Selection Criteria

  • Merit-based, with focus on academic achievement or gifted talent in specific area
  • Applicants must demonstrate intelligence, passion, and outstanding capacity for growth

Scholarship Tracks

  • Skilled Trade Track
  • Academic Track

Eligibility – Applicants

Eligible to apply for both tracks:

  • Zynik Associates’ children and grandchildren who will be pursuing post-secondary studies in 2025
    • Those currently pursuing post-secondary studies and are not currently recipients of the scholarship are also eligible to apply
    • Proof of admissions acceptance is required (conditional admission qualifies)
  • No restrictions on the applicant’s age or country of residence
  • At the time of application until the time of award, the parent or grandparent of the applicant must be any of the following:
    • A current employee of Zynik or one of Zynik’s portfolio companies (“Zynik Group”)
    • A former employee of the Zynik Group who has worked for the Zynik Group for at least 5 years and left the company within the past 5 years in good standing
    • A retired former employee of the Zynik Group who has worked for the Zynik Group for at least 5 years and retired from the company in good standing

Applicant specifications for each track: (Exceptions may be considered by the Selection Committee based on extenuating circumstances)

Skilled Trade Track

  • Minimum academic achievement:
    • For Applicants graduating from secondary school or college, minimum grade average of 60% in the most recent completed school year
  • Resume outlining past education and experience (additional documentation required for Applicants that have not been in school for the past 5 years)
  • Exceptions to the academic achievement requirement may be considered for applicants that can demonstrate a gifted talent in a specific area
  • A portfolio with a collection of work and ideas that demonstrate the state of the applicant’s creative and/or skilled trade development (if applicable)
  • Evaluation will be based on aptitude, portfolio, and a demonstrated outstanding capacity for growth
Academic Track

  • Minimum academic achievement:
    • For Applicants graduating from secondary school or college, minimum grade average of 80% in the most recent completed school year
    • For Applicants graduating from undergraduate studies, minimum first-class honor in the most recent completed undergraduate study
  • Resume outlining past education and experience (additional documentation required for Applicants that have not been in school for the past 5 years)
  • Exemptions to the academic achievement requirement may be considered for applicants that can demonstrate a gifted talent in a specific area
  • Application essay is required
  • Evaluation will be based on the past educational achievement, experience, and a demonstrated outstanding capacity for growth

Eligibility – Programs

  • Accredited programs
  • Full-time studies
    • Programs that do not have a specified end-date are not eligible
  • No restrictions on the field of study and discipline
  • Offered by domestic or international trade schools, colleges, or universities
  • Programs that lead to skilled trade certification, diploma, or undergraduate degree*
  • Programs must be of a minimum of 1 year in duration
  • Programs offered by professional bodies (e.g. CFA, CPA, etc.) are not eligible

* Preference will be given to undergraduate studies. However, if funds are not fully deployed, post-graduate studies (except for MBA programs) may be considered eligible

Skilled Trade Track

  • Most recent academic transcript of the most recently completed program (high school, college, and/or undergraduate)
  • Resume outlining past educational achievement and experience (additional documentation required for Applicants that have not been in school for the past 5 years)
  • A portfolio with a collection of work and ideas that demonstrate the state of the applicant’s creative and/or skilled trade development
Academic Track

  • Most recent academic transcript of the most recently completed program (high school, college, and/or undergraduate)
  • Resume outlining past educational achievement and experience (additional documentation required for Applicants that have not been in school for the past 5 years)
  • Application essay with emphasis on Applicant’s goals, interests and capacity for growth

Materials Required for Both Tracks

  • For those that do not meet the minimum academic achievement (see “Eligibility – Applicants” section above for details) but have demonstrated a gifted talent in a specific area, please provide a summary outlining the achievements or awards attained
  • Proof of acceptance from the academic program (conditional acceptance qualifies)
  • Tuition details of the program
  • Confirmation of employment of the related Zynik Associate by the company’s HR Manager
  • Consent form co-signed by the Zynik Associate and the Applicant
  • Disclosure of other financial awards or subsidies received for the program (Applicants are required sign a declaration)
  • Two Letters of Support/ References (one page each) relating to
    • Academic performance
    • Community involvement
  • The Letter of Support/ References (one page each) relating to
    • Academic performance
    • Community involvementThe Letter of Support/ References should be from individuals who are familiar with the applicant’s academic history or community involvement respectively, and who are not related to the applicant.

Conditions Precedent to Scholarship Disbursement

  • The scholarship will be awarded upon confirmation of registration in the program at the institution indicated by the applicant in the scholarship application
  • Scholarship recipient is required to submit proof of enrollment or proof of course registration prior to scholarship disbursement
  • Should the applicant decide to change major and/or institution after the Award Announcement, it is at the discretion of the Selection Committee to determine whether the award would be granted
  • Applicants are required to submit required documents throughout the program to maintain funding eligibility

Scholarship Recipients will be eligible to participate in

  • Peer support group
  • Digital community group for scholarship recipients
  • Potential enrollment to the Associate-Scholarship Recipient mentorship program
